RW Training Coaching Philosophy

When it comes to coaching a lot of athletes think that coaching is the workouts, but the truth is, there is a big difference between training plan and coaching. Training plan is your weekly, monthly and yearly workouts, of course based on your goal (a good training plan). That a lot of people can just follow and it will help you improve, but it stops right there.


Coaching on the other hand is completely different. Coaching aims to guide you towards your goal, and honestly the training plan on coaching is only about 15 to 20% of the game. Coaching is a lot more mental, and changing things around often, motivating the athlete, looking at the athlete weakness and strengths, looking at the athlete mental approach (yes everyone is different), athlete's nutrition and so on. As you can see coaching someone is a lot different than just giving a training plan. So most of the times, the last text message, the last feedback, the last email etc before a race can be crucial, why? Because racing is 75% to 85% mental, so saying the right thing can help the athlete have a good race or an excellent race.

Our goal at RW Training is to coach athletes, even though we provide training plans only, we always aim for coaching the athlete. Also is not every athlete that likes to be coached, some athletes work better on just following a training plan, and that is okay as long as that training plan is focus on the athlete goals and is specific for the athlete. So whatever athlete type you are, make sure you choose a training plan that focus on your goals and abilities, making sure they are specific for you. Like we always say, Training plans are science, coaching is an ART, and if you can combine both is even better.

Triathlon Coaching Plan:

  • Workouts planned every 4 weeks focus on your goals with weekly updates as needed 
  • 3 Phases of Nutrition Plan (Base phase, peak phase and pre and race day nutrition)
